We are saddened by the news of the death of John Carr a Past President of Local 10, long time Credit Union Volunteer and former Chairman of the Board. John joined the ILWU in 1965 as a Member of Local 10 in San Francisco. After working in the Bay Area for 21 years John moved to the Port of Los Angeles and joined Local 13 in 1986. John worked as a Member of Local 13 for two years until moving to Local 94 where he was a Member for 25 years until retiring in 2011.

John first became a credit union volunteer as a Member of the Supervisory Committee in 2005. He joined the Credit Union’s Board of Directors in January of 2007 and was elected Chairman of the Board in April of that same year. John served as Chairman until his resignation from the Board of Directors in October of 2013.

We thank John for his dedication and service to the Credit Union and our hearts go out to John’s family, friends and brothers and sisters in Locals 10, 13 and 94.

Ronald C. Tobin

Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Ronald C. Tobin who lost his battle with cancer on May 15, 2014. Ron was a dedicated ILWU Credit Union Volunteer for many years and gave generously of his time to help guide ILWU Members through the new account opening and loan processes with the credit union. He wanted to ensure that his union sisters and brothers were getting a “fair deal” on their loan and deposit accounts by having them work with the credit union instead of the local banks. The credit union is where it is now because of volunteers like Ron Tobin to whom we all owe our gratitude.

Ron was born in Carson, Calif., on June 25, 1934. Graduated from Banning Union High School and then returned to the Harbor area where he attended Harbor Jr. College. He was a longtime resident of San Pedro and loyal member of ILWU Local 63 Marine Clerks Union.
